The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Jobson Oseodion Ewalefoh as the new Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Dr. Ewalefoh, a renowned expert in Public Private Partnerships (PPP), for the position. The confirmation was met with praise from lawmakers and industry experts, who described the appointment as “well-deserved”.
Senator Sadiq Umar, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, urged Dr. Ewalefoh to prioritize Nigeria’s interests and boost investment opportunities. “I think it’s exciting, we need the best man, the best skill to really negotiate,” he said.
Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, also hailed Dr. Ewalefoh’s appointment, citing his wealth of experience in PPP matters. “You have everything it takes to bring a new life to the whole question of regulations, appropriate negotiations that will make it possible,” he said.
Dr. Ewalefoh, who has over two decades of experience in PPP, Concessions, and Privatisation, vowed to instil confidence in investors and enhance private investments in the country. “The first thing we want to do is to instil confidence in the investors… They are moved by safety and the return on investment,” he told the media.
With his confirmation, Dr. Ewalefoh is set to reposition the ICRC and drive investment in national infrastructure through innovative mobilisation of private-sector funding. His appointment has been widely welcomed, and he is expected to bring his expertise to bear in his new role.
