In a landmark move to foster sustainable development and technological innovation, the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has officially handed over electric vehicles to a new cadre of specially trained entrepreneurs from the district.
The handover ceremony, which took place over the weekend, marked the culmination of an intensive capacity-building programme for beneficiaries selected across the five local government areas that make up Kogi Central. The initiative, fully funded by the Senator, was executed in partnership with professional engineers from the Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC).
Prior to receiving the vehicles, the beneficiaries completed a rigorous technical and operational training programme designed to ensure they possess the expertise required to operate, maintain, and maximise the potential of their new electric assets safely and effectively.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan articulated the strategic importance of the initiative, framing it within the global transition to clean energy.
“The world is moving decisively toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions,” she stated. “Electric vehicles are not just an alternative mode of transport; they represent the future of mobility. This programme is about ensuring that the people of Kogi Central are not left behind in this technological revolution.”
The Senator emphasised that the project transcends a simple distribution of assets, describing it as a holistic empowerment model designed to create lasting economic impact.
“This initiative is fundamentally about creating sustainable livelihoods and building local capacity,” Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan explained. “We are equipping our youths and entrepreneurs with the tools and the knowledge to thrive in a rapidly evolving economy.
The comprehensive training provided by professional engineers was a non-negotiable part of this process, ensuring that empowerment is built on a foundation of competence and safety.”
While celebrating the opportunities the vehicles represent, the Senator also issued a strong call for responsible usage. She urged the beneficiaries to view the vehicles not just as a personal gain, but as a tool for broader community development.
“I charge you to drive with the utmost care and responsibility. Your safety and the safety of others on the road is paramount,” she advised. “Adhere to traffic regulations, prioritise regular maintenance, and avoid speeding. True empowerment is sustained through discipline and a commitment to safety.”
She concluded with an inspiring message, encouraging the new owners to become role models within their communities. “Let this be a platform for growth. Use these vehicles to support your families, enhance your businesses, and serve your communities. Let your success become a source of inspiration that resonates across all five local government areas.”
