Somalia’s Senate Speaker, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, has publicly thanked Russia for canceling a significant portion of its foreign debt, totaling $700 million.
Speaking at a plenary session of the Federation Council, Abdullahi described the move as a “historic act of generosity” that not only alleviates financial burdens but also symbolizes solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
“This historic act of generosity represents not only financial relief from our burden but also a powerful gesture of solidarity and friendship,” Abdullahi stated.
He further emphasized that Russia’s decision underscores its commitment to international cooperation, equitable development, and mutual respect.
The debt forgiveness is seen as a significant gesture of support from Russia to Somalia, highlighting the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to Abdullahi, Moscow’s decision confirms its dedication to fostering global cooperation and promoting development.
