Residents of the South-South community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as his inclusive leadership, particularly for appointing Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The group expressed its appreciation during a press briefing in Abuja, led by its National Youth Leader, Comrade Olali Henry, alongside other members of the South-South community resident in the nation’s capital.
Comrade Henry said the appointment of Wike has brought visible transformation to Abuja, stressing that the minister deserves commendation rather than what he described as politically motivated attempts by some groups to remove him from office.
According to him, there has been a recurring pattern where prominent appointments given to sons and daughters of the South-South region at the federal level, especially in the FCT, are often followed by agitation for their removal.
He alleged that recent protests and strike actions in the FCT were not solely driven by genuine grievances but were, in some cases, sponsored by political interests from other regions who view the Federal Capital Territory as their exclusive preserve.
“Under Minister Wike’s decisive leadership, the transformation has been remarkable and progressive. In under three years, the FCT has witnessed massive infrastructure growth,” Henry stated.
Also speaking at the briefing, the Youth Coordinator of Rivers State, South-South Nigeria, Nwaugha ThankGod, described leaders from the South-South region as hardworking and trustworthy. He called on what he termed political saboteurs to allow the FCT Minister to focus on his national assignment.
He further appealed to FCT workers, many of whom he noted are from the South-South region, to grant the minister more time to address outstanding concerns in the capital city.
In his remarks, the Youth President of Edo State, South-South Nigeria, Mr Innocent Idemudia, also praised Wike’s performance, linking the minister’s activities to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Idemudia urged President Tinubu to publicly reaffirm his confidence in the FCT Minister, noting that South-South people in Abuja and across the region remain united in their support for Wike.
He added that the community stands ready to support the minister as he continues to serve the country “with courage and vision.”
