A student-nurse at the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, is facing expulsion for posting a video of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s, welcome ceremony on TikTok.
The college authorities deemed the student-nurse’s actions as a “malicious act” and a “punishable offense” as enshrined in the Student Handbook.
According to a query letter signed by the Provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne (Mrs.), the student-nurse, Osato Edobor, is expected to provide a written explanation, in triplicate, within 24 hours, detailing why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.
“You are therefore requested to explain in writing in triplicate copies within 24hours of receipt of this letter why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for this offence,” the letter reads.
The incident has raised questions about the limits of freedom of expression and the responsibilities of students in public institutions.
