President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, has turned to the northern region as he campaigns for another term in office.

He made his appeal during the North-West Consultative Meeting held in Kano State on Thursday, where he asked delegates to support his bid for re-election.

The gathering, organised by the Kano State chapter of the NYCN in partnership with the state government, drew representatives from the NYCN Board of Trustees, Advisory Council, Management Committee, zonal leaders, state chairmen from the region, and heads of various youth organisations.

Sukubo said the northern region had played a strong role in his leadership journey, noting that their backing gave him the strength to rise within the council. He assured them that he values the support they have given him since he assumed office.

He pointed to the revalidation of Voluntary Youth Organisations (VYOs) as one of the bold steps his administration had taken. According to him, past leaders avoided the exercise to prevent disputes, but his decision to carry it out was aimed at meeting constitutional requirements and strengthening the council. So far, the process has produced 18 revalidated VYOs in the North-East, 35 in the North-West, and 31 in the North-Central.

In a show of support, the Kano State Government praised Sukubo’s leadership, particularly his efforts to empower young people. The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, said the state government was ready to partner with the council to improve the lives of its large youth population.

At the end of the meeting, stakeholders from the North-West passed a vote of confidence in both Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the NYCN executives under Sukubo. They also pledged their full support for him in the upcoming national elective congress scheduled for September 19 to 22, 2025.
