US authorities have arrested Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, following a tip-off from one of Robinson’s family members.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest at a press conference, saying Robinson’s relative contacted a friend, who then alerted law enforcement. FBI Director Kash Patel said the arrest took place Thursday night, about 33 hours after the shooting.
Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in the neck while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Police recovered a high-powered hunting rifle believed to be the murder weapon.
The killing has sparked nationwide reactions. Former President Donald Trump described Kirk as a key figure in mobilizing young conservatives and announced he would attend the funeral. Cox also stated that Utah would seek the death penalty against Robinson.
Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was known for his outspoken conservative views and strong media presence, particularly among young audiences.
