— Urge students to avoid exam malpractice

The Taraba State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo, has officially welcomed 612 new students into its 2025/2026 academic session.
The Provost Dr. Dorcas Dugule Sirgawi hailed the event as a pivotal moment for the students, emphasizing the college’s commitment to producing compassionate and competent professionals.
“As the Provost of this great College, I stand before you today with a strong sense responsibility and pride. My vision for the College is clear to build a citadel of learning that produces highly competent, ethical sound and global competitive Nursing professionals.
“You have successfully passed through a rigorous and competitive selection process, demonstrating academic ability, discipline and a genuine passion for Nursing profession. I warmly congratulate you.
She said that matriculation is not a merely a tradition, it is a formal induction into a noble profession that is rooted in compassion, competence and unwavering commitment to the preservation of life.
“From today, you are no longer just aspiring students, you are student Nurses and Midwives in training, preparing to take on crucial roles in healthcare delivery.
According to her, College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, has continue to distinguish itself as a center of excellence.
“Over the years, we have recorded remarkable achievements to include, 100% success in March 2026 Midwifery NMCN examination, reinforcement of academic standards by ensuring that only qualified candidate were presented for professional examinations, Elimination of examination malpractice through the installation and effective use of CCV in examination halls and restoration of electricity supply in the College. Others are, Securing the College as a TETFund beneficiary, Full fictional ICT Center, Provision of free and active Wi-Fi to support teaching, learning and research and promotion of and welfare for staff and students, just to mention but few.
She encourage the matriculated students to see challenges as stepping stones and not obstacles.
“Take full advantage of the mentorship available to you. Respect your Lecturers, abide by the rules of the College and upheld the dignity of the Nursing professionals at all times.
She assured parents and guardians that their children are in safe and capable hands.
“We are not only training them to pass examinations, but to become professionals who will make a difference in the society.
“Dear students, as you embark on this journey, remember that Nursing is a calling. It requires sacrifice, resilience and deep commitment to humanity. Stay focused, avoid distractions and strive for excellence in all that you do – she said.
Dr. Dugule disclose that the achievements are not accidental, but are the result of dedication, discipline and share vision for excellence by the management, members of staff and students of the institution.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mike Dio Jen, represented by the Secretary of the Ministry, Solomon Nathaniel, reiterated the state’s dedication to improving tertiary education.

The Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences at Taraba State University, Dr. Kilo Nfor, commended Governor Agbu Kefas for the ongoing development at the College, describing the intervention as a strategic investment in the state’s healthcare future. On his part, NANNM Chairman Nathaniel Pius Merigi urged the 324 nursing and 288 midwifery students to uphold the profession’s ethics as future healthcare leaders while The Medical Director, Federal Medical Center, Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Adamu, appreciate parents for sponsoring their children to study Nursing and Midwive and urge them to continue.
She promised to continue partnering with the College in training of students for promoting primary health care delivery across the state and beyond.
The matriculation ceremony, graced by government officials, professional bodies, parents and stakeholders, highlighted the institution’s strides in academic rigor and infrastructure development.
The ceremony closed with a charge to the matriculants to stay disciplined, leverage the college’s conducive environment, and champion Taraba’s healthcare future.
