Taraba Governor Inaugurates Local Government Advisory Committee

By Emmanuel Awari-Jalingo

The Principal of Federal Government Girls College Jalingo, Mrs. Justina Favor Isaac-Kure, has appealed to Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to extend his free education policy to Unity Schools in the state.

Speaking at the college’s 22nd Spe
ech and Prize Giving Day, Mrs. Isaac-Kure noted that the state government’s declaration of free education has affected Unity Schools, leading some parents to withdraw their children from the college. She emphasized the need for the governor’s benevolence to be extended to Unity Schools, including Federal Government Girls College Jalingo, Federal Government College Wukari, and Federal Science Technical College Jalingo.

“The story about Nigeria now is that things are difficult. We want to appeal to the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to extend his benevolent gesture of free education to Unity Schools in the state,” she said.

Mrs. Isaac-Kure highlighted the college’s achievements, including winning a competition that would have seen them represent Nigeria in Rwanda, but for the lack of funds. She commended the governor for his support, despite the college’s challenges, including land encroachment, erosion, poor road network, security concerns, and inadequate teaching staff.

“We are grateful to God for the students’ success. Despite all odds, the class of 2024 is unique in the history of this college,” she said, congratulating the graduands. “We appreciate the Taraba State Government, the College community, and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support during the academic session.”

The principal’s appeal resonated with the college community, who hope that the governor will consider extending his free education policy to Unity Schools, benefiting Taraba State indigenes and enhancing the quality of education in the state.
