The Gara of Chanchanji, HRH Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya, and his son, Yusuf, were ambushed and killed by suspected gunmen on Friday evening, July 19, 2024, while returning from a funeral event in Takum, Taraba State. This incident marks the third murder of a traditional ruler in the state between April and July this year.
“The manner in which the late revered monarch was hacked down is tragic,” said Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, who has ordered security agents to investigate the circumstances and bring the perpetrators to justice. “Everyone involved must be brought to justice as soon as possible.”
The Tiv Cultural and Social Association, Taraba State, also condemned the murder, urging the government and security agencies to diligently investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. “We appeal to His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to deploy security forces to calm the rising tensions in the area,” said Chief James Baka, President General of the Association.
The community is in mourning, and many are calling for swift action by the government to address the security situation in Taraba State. The governor has reiterated his resolve to rid the state of lawlessness and brigandage, stressing that the era of banditry and criminality has ended with the strong security measures being taken.
