Hon. (Dr) Mike Dio Jen, representing Karim I State Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, has urged the state government to bolster security in his constituency. He made the appeal through a sponsored bill, citing the recent killing of a traditional ruler in his palace.
“I implore Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas to deploy additional security personnel to Karim to protect lives,” Jen said. “The recent incident where unknown gunmen killed a traditional ruler who had just returned from prayers at a mosque is alarming.”
Supporting the bill, Hon. Shuaibu Anas Didango, representing Karim II, advocated for the establishment of a Police Mobile Base in the area. “A police base would facilitate swift responses to security breaches, reducing the high rate of insecurity in the region,” Didango said.
The members praised the state government and security agencies for their efforts in addressing insecurity but emphasized the need for more measures. Karim Lamido local government shares borders with four states, making it vulnerable to security threats.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, recently visited remote towns in Lau and Karim-Lamido LGAs to reassure residents of the military’s commitment to their security. He met with local leaders and community members to address security concerns and strengthen partnerships.
The visit followed the murder of Alh. Auwal Wali, the Village Head of Usman, by unknown gunmen. Brigadier General Uwa emphasized the importance of community support in securing the region. He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities and assured them of the military’s commitment to hunting down perpetrators of the dastardly act.
The local government chairman and community leaders expressed gratitude for the military’s support and commended the strong relationship between the military and the people of Karim-Lamido.
