The Tata Group, owner of Air India, has pledged to provide £86,000 (₹1 crore) to the families of each person who lost their life in the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash near Ahmedabad.
The company has also committed to covering the medical expenses of those injured in the disaster.
“Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support,” said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Group.
The Air India flight, bound for London’s Gatwick Airport, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, claiming the lives of over 200 people. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
In addition to the compensation, the Tata Group has also pledged to support the rebuilding of the BJ Medical College hostel, which was severely damaged in the accident. “We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time,” the company stated.
Noel Tata, a key figure in the Tata Group, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, saying, “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment”
