In southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike claimed the life of one person and left another injured early Sunday, despite an ongoing ceasefire.
The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed the attack, which targeted a vehicle in the town of Yater, located in the Bint Jbeil district.
The strike hit an X5 SUV just after midnight, according to Lebanon’s state news agency, NNA. The identities of the occupants remain unknown, and Israeli officials have not commented on the incident.
The ceasefire, which began in November 2024, aimed to end months of intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that erupted in September. However, the truce has been repeatedly breached. Lebanese authorities have documented nearly 1,100 Israeli violations, leading to the deaths of at least 87 people and injuring over 280 others.
Under the agreement, Israel was supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Israel refused to comply. Despite the extension, Israeli forces continue to occupy five border outposts, adding to the region’s instability.
This latest strike raises concerns about the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the potential for renewed violence in the region.
