A small aircraft crashed in Boca Raton, Florida, on Friday morning, leaving three people dead and one injured.
The incident occurred just minutes after takeoff and has prompted a federal investigation.
The twin-engine Cessna 310 had departed from Boca Raton Airport at approximately 10:13 a.m., bound for Tallahassee International Airport. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft appeared to experience trouble and attempted to return to the airport. Within minutes, it crashed around 10:20 a.m., drawing an immediate response from emergency services.
Authorities confirmed that all three individuals on board the plane were killed in the crash. A fourth person, who was on the ground at the time of the accident, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been released.
Officials from Boca Raton Fire Rescue reported receiving an emergency call about a plane in distress. The aircraft was reportedly experiencing mechanical problems before going down. Smoke from the crash site was visible in videos shared on social media.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The agency will review flight data, the plane’s maintenance history, and other factors as part of its inquiry.
Following the crash, police shut down several roads in the area, including both directions of the I-95 overpass at Glades Road. Drivers were urged to avoid the area as cleanup and investigation efforts continued.
The Cessna 310R, capable of carrying up to six people, is commonly used for both personal and small business flights. It is not yet known what specific malfunction may have led to the crash.
As investigators begin to examine the wreckage, the community remains on edge, with officials promising more details in the coming days.
