Early on July 28, 2025, a shooting broke out just before 7:30 a.m. in the valet parking lot of the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada.
A man armed with a handgun began firing at random people near the valet stand.
Police say his weapon jammed initially, but once it cleared, he shot five individuals by the valet area. One victim died on the spot.
Three others were taken to hospital; one more died later. A sixth person driving through the lot was also targeted and killed. Two of the remaining wounded are in critical condition. One person has since been released.
While fleeing, the shooter confronted a casino security guard who returned fire. The suspect then tried to escape further but was located and wounded by arriving officers.
He is hospitalized in serious but stable condition. One police officer suffered minor injuries, likely from glass debris.
Authorities stressed the victims bore no known connection to the attacker. The motive remains unclear.
Sparks Police Department, with assistance from Reno PD and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, is leading the investigation.
They arrived on scene within about five minutes. The resort staff, local first responders, and downtown emergency teams supported immediate medical efforts on site.
Grand Sierra Resort issued a statement expressing sorrow over the event and thanking law enforcement, while city officials asked the public to avoid the western parking area during the ongoing investigation.
Officials say the suspect was acting alone. No arrests aside from the shooter have been reported. The case is under review by local authorities.
