Tiv Community Crowns Chief Aneh As First-Class Chief

The Tiv community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has recorded a historic milestone with the coronation of Chief Ambassador Joseph Aneh, JP, as the First-Class Chief (Or U Hemen Tiv U FCT Abuja CII), marking a new era of unity, cultural pride, and leadership among Tiv indigenes in the nation’s capital.

The ceremony, which drew Tiv sons and daughters from across Nigeria and the diaspora, was described as a landmark event symbolizing the unity, identity, and leadership of the Tiv people in the nation’s capital.

In a commentary issued by the President of Mdzough U Tiv Abuja Chapter, Prince Michael Terver Kokoiwen, the coronation was hailed as more than a ceremonial recognition.

It was described as an affirmation of Tiv solidarity and a call for renewed cohesion, mutual respect, and revival of the traditional values that define the Tiv identity.

“The enthronement of a First-Class Chief is not merely a cultural milestone but a call to order — a call for unity and purpose among the Tiv community in the diaspora,” Kokoiwen stated.

He emphasized that Abuja, as Nigeria’s administrative and political nerve center, presents the Tiv community with a unique platform to consolidate their collective strength, nurture solidarity, and pursue common goals.

Highlighting the Tiv people’s reputation for resilience, courage, and commitment to justice, the commentary noted that these virtues must now translate into meaningful development through unity of purpose.

“The coronation must be seen as a rallying point for the Tiv community to overcome internal divisions, reinforce cultural pride, and present a united front in national dialogue and political participation,” it said.

Kokoiwen further noted that the event underscores the enduring relevance of Tiv traditional institutions in modern governance, stressing that traditional leadership rooted in integrity, inclusiveness, and vision remains vital for social organization, conflict resolution, and political representation.

He urged the Tiv community in Abuja and other parts of the Nigerian diaspora to view the coronation as a clarion call to build an organized, politically active, and development-oriented Tiv nation.

“Unity in diaspora is not just a cultural necessity; it is a political and economic strategy for empowerment. Through collective action, the Tiv can more effectively engage government institutions, attract development initiatives, and ensure their voices are heard in national affairs,” Kokoiwen added.

As Chief Ambassador Joseph Aneh assumes his revered role, the Tiv community expressed hope that his leadership would inspire renewed trust, cooperation, and cultural pride among the Tiv people.

“Let this moment ignite a spirit of oneness where every Tiv son and daughter, regardless of background or status, commits to the advancement of the Tiv nation and the strengthening of its traditional institutions,” Kokoiwen stated.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of unity and progress for the Tiv nation: “Indeed, the FCT Abuja now stands as a beacon of Tiv unity, and from this center, the spirit of brotherhood, purpose, and progress must radiate to all corners where the Tiv people dwell.”
