“It is with deep sorrow that The United Methodist Church in Nigeria extends heartfelt condolences to the Christian community in Billiri,” said Rev. Filibus Bakari Auta, Director of Communication, United Methodist Church, in a statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this heartbreaking tragedy. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
The church wished those currently hospitalized a full and speedy recovery. “Our prayers are with you for comfort, strength, and healing during this difficult time,” the statement read. The church also called on the government and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent investigation into the incident.
“The circumstances surrounding the accident raise serious concerns, and demand accountability to ensure that justice is served and such tragedies are prevented in the future,” the statement emphasized. Bishop Ande Emmanuel, Bishop of the United Methodist Church Nigeria Episcopal Area, expressed solidarity with the Billiri Christian community.
“As a church, we stand in solidarity with the Billiri Christian community. Let us unite in prayer and offer our support to the grieving families.
