A passenger train derailed in southern Denmark after colliding with a slurry tanker, leaving one woman dead and dozens injured.
The accident happened late Friday between Tinglev and Kliplev in Jutland, not far from the German border.
Police confirmed that a 60-year-old woman lost her life in the crash. A total of 27 passengers were hurt, with five suffering serious injuries.
Two of those remain in critical condition. Authorities used a crane overnight to lift carriages and check for any additional victims inside the wreckage.
In total, 106 people were on board when the collision occurred at a level crossing.
At least two carriages left the tracks, with one lying on its side. Images from the scene showed passengers standing near the damaged train as emergency crews worked nearby.
Among the passengers were a group of school pupils and two teachers from Sønderborg, which was the train’s destination.
None of them were badly hurt, though support has been offered to help them process the incident.
Rail operator DSB has suspended services along the affected line until further notice.
Denmark’s national rail authority Banedanmark reported that cleanup and safety checks are underway before traffic can resume.
Officials expressed sympathy for those affected, while local hospitals continue to treat the injured.
