Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have dismantled bandit camps and recovered arms during an extensive clearance operation in parts of Benue and Taraba States under the ongoing “Operation Golden Peace.”
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, confirmed in a statement that the operation took place on December 7, 2024, targeting Akahagu and China villages in Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State.
The operation extended to Ikayor village, where troops encountered bandits linked to the notorious criminal Akiki Utiv, alias “Full Fire.” Using superior firepower, the soldiers forced the bandits to abandon their positions and flee.
Recovered items included a red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, a military camouflage trouser, a Beretta pistol with one round of 9mm ammunition, and other materials.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their courage and commitment. He reassured residents of the military’s determination to restore peace and urged the public to provide credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
“Operation Golden Peace” remains a critical initiative aimed at securing the region and countering criminal activities in Taraba and Benue States.
