Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division and the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, have stopped fresh bandit attacks in Plateau State, killing one suspect and seizing weapons, a motorcycle, and other items during raids.
The army said the operations, carried out between Monday and Tuesday, were based on intelligence about bandit activities in Wase and Kanam local government areas. Soldiers laid an ambush along routes leading to the Odare Forest in Wase, where they intercepted bandits moving on motorcycles. A short gun battle followed, leaving one suspect dead, while others fled into the bush with injuries. The soldiers recovered a motorcycle, two phones, a machete, and charms left behind by the fleeing group.
In another mission, troops targeted suspected crossing points used by armed men around Garga, Showaka, Yuli, and Kukawa villages. The soldiers engaged the bandits, forcing them to retreat. A G3 rifle, a loaded magazine, and three rounds of ammunition were found and secured during the sweep of the area.
The army explained that these operations are part of wider efforts to block criminal networks and reduce the movement of bandits threatening communities in Plateau. The soldiers also said they will continue to act against violent groups until calm and security return to the affected areas.
Residents were asked to support the military by reporting strange activities, with the assurance that all information will be treated discreetly.
