Troops Raid Bandit Camp in Taraba State, Neutralise One, Arrest 23

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully dismantled a notorious bandit camp in Angwan Bala, Kambari area of Karim Lamido Local Government Area, Taraba State.

The raid, carried out on 2 February 2025, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits in the region.

According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the operation resulted in the neutralisation of one bandit, while 23 others, including 19 men and four women, surrendered.

“On sighting the patrol team, the bandits opened fire, prompting an immediate and overwhelming response from the troops,” Captain Oni said.

A thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons, including four AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one English-made pistol, two locally made guns, 28 cutlasses, 16 motorcycles, and 48 daggers and jackknives.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid ₦1.5 million to a local chief in Amar village to establish their base in the area.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining security in Taraba State.

“This operation is a testament to our resolve to eliminate criminal elements, restore lasting peace, and ensure that Taraba State does not become a safe haven for terrorists,” he stated.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of community support in the fight against banditry.

The Nigerian Army continues to intensify its operations against criminal elements across the country as part of broader efforts to enhance national security.
