US President Donald Trump has blamed Senate Democrats for the continuing government shutdown, which has now reached its 31st day. Speaking from Florida, he referred to Democrats as “crazed lunatics” and declared that he would only hold talks with them if they first agreed to “open up the country.”
The partial closure of the US government, now the second-longest in the country’s history, entered its 31st day with President Donald Trump firmly holding Democratic lawmakers responsible for the deadlock. The political impasse, which began on October 1st, remains unresolved as both parties continue to disagree over federal spending priorities.
Addressing reporters in Florida, President Trump intensified his criticism of the opposition. “The shutdown proceeds because the Democrats just don’t know what they’re doing,” he said. “They’ve become crazed lunatics.” Although he expressed readiness to negotiate, he maintained a strict condition, stating, “I’m always willing to meet; all they have to do is open up the country. Let them open up the country and we’ll meet.”
The standoff continued in the Senate, where a Republican-sponsored funding bill failed to pass for the 13th time, falling short of the necessary 60 votes. President Trump insisted that “everything is their fault,” and stated that Republicans are “very unified.” The current Republican approach focuses on persuading a few Democrats to break ranks and back their proposal to end the shutdown.
