US President Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, accusing him of having no real interest in ending the war with Russia.
The remarks came after Zelensky stated that the conflict remains far from over.
Trump made the comments on his Truth Social platform, suggesting that the US would not tolerate Zelensky’s stance for much longer. The former president’s criticism followed Zelensky’s statements in London, where he acknowledged the war’s prolonged nature but emphasized Ukraine’s strong relationship with the US.
Speaking to reporters, Zelensky expressed confidence that US support for Ukraine would continue. He described the partnership between the two nations as more than just a temporary alliance, saying he believed defense assistance from Washington would persist.
However, Trump dismissed Zelensky’s remarks, calling them “the worst statement that could have been made.” He suggested that Ukraine’s leader was unwilling to negotiate peace as long as American aid continued. Trump referenced Zelensky’s comments to world leaders in London, in which the Ukrainian president stressed the importance of US assistance in maintaining Ukraine’s defense against Russian forces.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions over US support for Ukraine as the war drags on with no clear resolution in sight.
