President Donald Trump has introduced a new immigration plan aimed at encouraging undocumented immigrants to leave the United States voluntarily.
Speaking during an interview on Fox Noticias, Trump outlined a self-deportation initiative that includes offering money and plane tickets to those who decide to exit the country on their own.
The plan marks a shift from Trump’s earlier hardline stance on immigration. Instead of sweeping crackdowns, he now says his administration will focus on removing violent offenders while offering non-criminal undocumented immigrants a chance to leave with dignity and possibly return through legal channels if they meet future criteria.
Trump explained that under the new program, individuals who depart the country could receive financial assistance and travel arrangements. He added that people deemed “good” or beneficial to American society might be allowed to return legally through a re-entry process. However, exact rules about who qualifies for this pathway or when the program will start have not yet been made public.
The conversation also touched on a long-time undocumented resident from Mexico who has American citizen children. The man expressed support for Trump’s ideas, saying criminals should be sent back, but families like his should be given a chance. Trump responded by saying he agreed with that view and saw the man as someone the country would benefit from keeping.
Trump also said sectors like farming and hospitality still need workers, and the self-deportation plan could help manage labor shortages by allowing willing workers to re-enter the U.S. legally. He said his administration wants the process to be fair and less disruptive for families while staying firm on border control.
