A popular Nigerian social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja. The arrest follows VDM’s public criticism of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over alleged unauthorized transactions from his mother’s account.
According to reports, GTBank ordered VDM’s arrest after he complained about repeated debits from his mother’s account for loans she never took. VDM had earlier posted on social media about visiting a GTBank branch with his mother to inquire about the deductions and obtain her bank statement.
VDM’s legal counsel, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest, stating that officers apprehended VDM at Area 3 in Abuja. Adeyanju described the arrest as “absolutely unacceptable”, emphasizing that demanding accountability should not be considered a crime.
“They arrested him with a friend but left his mother alone,” Adeyanju tweeted. He questioned the circumstances surrounding VDM’s arrest, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in banking transactions.
The incident has sparked concerns about the bank’s actions and the implications for consumer rights in Nigeria.
