The Dangote Group has announced the installation of surveillance cameras on its fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks as part of efforts to improve safety and accountability in its operations.
The company said the move was aimed at monitoring driving behavior, preventing accidents, and ensuring strict compliance with safety standards.
According to Murilo Silva, Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Plc, “We have developed a monitoring system of our drivers that helps them do their jobs safely.
We have Drivers Help Desk Units that follow up with drivers’ situations while on trips. We also have a Control Department that follows up with drivers’ behaviour while on trips.”
The company has also launched a recertification exercise for all its truck drivers, emphasising its commitment to professionalism and safety. Arvind Pathak, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement Plc, revealed that over 1,500 drivers have undergone intensive screening to ascertain their mental, psychological, and physical fitness for safe driving.
The Dangote Cement Plc has a Policy on Drivers Employment processes that gives the criteria on DADTS processes of engaging new drivers, especially mandatory five years of experience and compulsory a class G license. The recertification process includes medical evaluations, drug and alcohol testing, and background verification.
It would be recalled that protests broke out recently in Auchi, Edo state, over the unruly
behaviours of Dangote truck-drivers.
