Renowned Nollywood producer, Tchidi Chikere, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Olu Jacobs, who passed away today at the age of 82. Chikere shared fond memories of working with Jacobs, describing him as a “gentleman to the core” who never lost his cool or showed any sense of entitlement.
“I have had the privilege of working with Uncle Olu Jacobs from 1999 till date, and I must say, he is the best,” Chikere wrote. “He was the peacemaker on set, and his age never made him look down on us who started watching his movies as kids.”
Chikere recalled a conversation with Jacobs where he asked about his age, and Jacobs replied, “I shall not see seventy again.” When asked again, he said, “I shall not see seventy-three again.” Chikere joked that he gave up asking after that.
The producer praised Jacobs for his wisdom, saying, “I love older gentlemen, all of them. I get close and I get wisdom because I learnt long ago that wisdom comes from experience, and what better experience than through the years?”

Chikere remembered working with Jacobs on the movie “Boy Obi” alongside Mama G, where he noticed Jacobs struggling to remember his lines, a sign of the effects of aging.
“Uncle Olu, acting now or not, Nollywood loves you!!” Chikere wrote. “There is not a single human in Nollywood who has had any contact with you that will say otherwise. I pray and wish you come back on screen again. I wish you well; I wish you love from those closer to you.”
Chikere concluded his tribute by saying, “Your pedigree is rare, your breed is quintessential, your person is profound, your charisma is sublime! TAKE YOUR FLOWERS SIRE!”
Olu Jacobs’ passing has sent shockwaves through the Nollywood industry, and his legacy will be deeply missed.
