A violent clash broke out at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Port Harcourt on Friday, with gunshots ringing out as supporters of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike collided over control of the party’s local structures. The confrontation, which occurred near the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway, is linked to an ongoing power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.
The incident began when Fubara’s supporters, who had been ousted from the office following a court decision, attempted to regain control. Their efforts were met by Wike’s loyalists, leading to a heated standoff. Eyewitnesses reported sporadic gunshots, with some claiming security operatives guarding the office were responsible, while others suggested political thugs were involved.
The violence reflects deepening tensions within the PDP in Rivers State, with both factions vying for dominance in the region.
