Stephen Nana, popularly known as Stevenator, has opened up on the real reason he stepped down as the manager of Afrobeats singer, Asake.
In an interview now circulating widely on social media, Stevenator revealed that he parted ways with Asake due to the overwhelming demands of managing the fast-rising music star, coupled with the strain it placed on his personal and family life.
Stevenator, who managed Asake from 2022 to 2024, stated that his journey into artiste management began when Olamide, the YBNL record label boss, entrusted him with the responsibility—despite his inexperience.
“Olamide called me one day and told me that he had an artiste he would want me to manage,” he said during the interview. “That was my first time going into management. I didn’t know anything about the job. I had never met Asake, never even heard his songs before.”

He expressed gratitude to Olamide for the opportunity, noting that despite being longtime friends for over 20 years, the leap into artiste management was sudden and intense. “Asake blew up so quickly that there was no time to learn the job. It was back-to-back work.”
Stevenator cited family challenges as a major reason for his exit. “I had two sons and didn’t have time to spend with them. Sometimes we were on the road for four to five months. My second son refused to let me carry him when I saw him in London—he didn’t know me.”
He added, “To be able to balance my work and family, I had to step down. Asake became way too big, and I had to follow him everywhere. I’m now a family man, and I love my wife.”
