Why the Calls for Sen. Natasha H Akpoti to Join APC Completely Miss the Point

By Onono Onimisi

Lately, I’ve seen people online and offline pushing the idea that Senator Natasha should cross over to the APC. And honestly, the argument misses the entire point. Not every rising political figure needs to abandon their party just because another platform suddenly realizes her value. If anything, the noise only proves what some people don’t want to admit which is “Sen. Natasha is an asset anywhere she goes.”

Let’s be real, everyone wants her because she delivers. Her influence didn’t appear out of thin air; it wasn’t bought, borrowed, or negotiated. It was built through years of consistent service, fearlessness, accountability, and genuine connection with the people she represents. When a politician performs, even the opposition begins to notice. And that is exactly what is happening.

But those calling for her to join the APC are looking at this situation the wrong way. Natasha’s strength has never been tied to switching political platforms. Her strength lies in how she works, not where she works. She has shown repeatedly that leadership is not about running from one party to the next, but about standing firm and building from where you are.

Her presence at the recent PDP congress speaks volumes. It was a clear message without any long speech that she remains loyal to the party that gave her the platform to serve. While many others have jumped ship at the slightest discomfort, Sen. Natasha has stayed. She has demonstrated the discipline to remain rooted when it would have been easier to move. And in a political climate where loyalty is becoming a scarce commodity, that alone deserves serious commendation.

And let’s clear the air once and for all; yes, the APC wants her. Anyone pretending otherwise is just being dishonest. They want her precisely because they can see the value she carries, the influence, the credibility, the results, the goodwill. But wanting her does not automatically mean she should go. If anything, it reinforces how rare her type of leadership is.

At the end of the day, the calls for defection only confirm one thing, when you work well, everybody wants to claim you. But Sen. Natasha has shown something deeper that effectiveness doesn’t require party-hopping. Consistency does!

And here is the part many people don’t understand; even if Sen. Natasha decides someday in the near future to switch parties, her relevance will remain intact. Her value is not tied to PDP or APC. It is tied to her work, her record, her impact. Some politicians rely on parties to make them relevant; Natasha is one of the few whose relevance elevates the party she belongs to.

And for standing firm while still delivering beyond expectations, she has earned every ounce of respect coming her way.
