Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has mocked prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Wike said those who once accused him of working against the PDP are now openly joining the ruling party, insisting that their actions have vindicated him.
He said the decampees should rather commend him for “doing a good job” of paving the way for them to join the ruling party.
“I have been watching on television and social media people who said I wanted to destabilise the party and that I was working for the APC. All of them are now in the APC,” Mr Wike said on Wednesday during the flag-off of the main carriageway construction on the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja.
“So, which means if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading. So, I should be commended for doing a good job for them,” he added mockingly.
The minister noted that the wave of defections by PDP governors and key figures to the APC justifies his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In less than 48 hours, Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa State resigned from the PDP.
While Mr Mbah has officially announced his defection to the APC, stating that his decision was in the interest of national development under Mr Tinubu’s leadership,
However, Mr Diri is yet to make his next move public, although speculations suggest he may also be heading to the ruling party.
