Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he has no intention of resolving his ongoing conflict with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Sunday, Wike accused Fubara and his allies of failing to follow President Bola Tinubu’s directives aimed at resolving their political dispute.
“I’m wondering, what conflict to resolve?” Wike said. “Mr. President, in his wisdom, called all parties and gave directives: withdraw the impeachment notice, do this and that. They never returned to him after doing just part of what was agreed.”
He continued, “The Assembly withdrew the impeachment notice, but they later sent people to court. Have they gone back to Mr. President to explain why they couldn’t fulfill all the directives? Nothing. Who does that?”
A Political Rift Over Control
The feud between Wike and Fubara reportedly began shortly after Fubara’s inauguration, with tensions allegedly centered on control of the state’s political resources.
Despite Tinubu’s intervention, which included steps to mediate the conflict, the fallout between the two political heavyweights remains unresolved.
Wike’s comments highlight the deepening divide and signal his unwillingness to engage further unless Fubara’s camp adheres to Tinubu’s peace proposals.
Observers suggest that the impasse could escalate unless both parties find a way to bridge their differences.
