A US woman from Wisconsin has been found guilty in Britain for trying to kill a man in Birmingham in 2019.
Aimee Betro, 45, was convicted of conspiracy to murder, firearms offences, and importing ammunition after a three-week trial.
Prosecutors said the case stemmed from a dispute between two families in England’s Midlands region.
Betro, from West Allis near Milwaukee, had met one of the plotters, Mohammed Nazir, online and had visited him in 2018. Nazir and his father, Mohammed Aslam, had already been jailed for their roles.
Betro flew to Manchester in August 2019, posing as a tourist while preparing for the attack.
On 7 September, she bought a Mercedes under a false name, waited outside the target’s home wearing a niqab, and tried to shoot him.
The gun jammed, allowing him to escape. Later that night, she returned in a taxi and fired shots into the house, missing the occupants.
After leaving the UK hours later, Betro and Nazir attempted to frame another man by mailing him ammunition from the United States.
Betro evaded capture for years before being arrested in Armenia and extradited. She will be sentenced on 21 August. Her reason for taking part in the attack remains unclear.
