The Zamfara State House of Assembly has declared the seat of Hon. Aliyu Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South Constituency, vacant due to persistent absenteeism.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary, Bello Kurya, the assembly revealed that Kagara attended only 21 out of 180 legislative sittings, violating Sections 101 and 109(2) of the Nigerian Constitution.
The motion to declare Kagara’s seat vacant was presented by Majority Leader Hon. Bello Muhammad Mazawajje Tsafe during a plenary session and was seconded by Deputy Speaker Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi. Despite a plea from Halliru Kuturu (Zurmi East) to explore alternative disciplinary actions, the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, affirmed the decision after extensive deliberations.
The Speaker noted that several committees had been formed to address Kagara’s absenteeism, but efforts to resolve the issue amicably were unsuccessful.
Kagara, a member of the All Progressives Congress and former Minority Leader of the Assembly, was officially removed for failing to fulfill his legislative duties as required by law.
