Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has announced a bold initiative to revamp the state’s healthcare system.
During a meeting on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri, the governor inaugurated three strategic boards to drive the reforms: the Borno State Hospital Management Board, the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board, and the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital Management Board.
Governor Zulum stated the urgent need to strengthen healthcare services across the state, citing issues like insufficient staffing, inadequate medical supplies, and poorly equipped facilities.
“Our secondary healthcare facilities are overwhelmed because the primary healthcare system is underperforming. I want a detailed assessment of all hospitals, highlighting their specific challenges so we can tackle these issues comprehensively,” Zulum stated.
Leaders of the newly formed boards, including Professor Ahmed Ahidjo of the Kashim Ibrahim Teaching Hospital Management Board and Modu Musa of the Local Government Service Commission, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
They pledged to implement the governor’s vision by addressing the critical gaps in the health sector and ensuring sustainable improvements.
