Rejection can be masked as redirection and Tyler Perry can attest to this.
While speaking on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk, Perry shared he had an opportunity to do a show for CBS. However, the network was deciding between moving forward with “The Tyler Perry Show” or “Two and a Half Men.”
Perry Says He Didn’t Want To Move Forward With CBS
Perry seemed to show regret in being considered.
“I had an opportunity to do a TV show with CBS. They wanted to do ‘The Tyler Perry Show’ or ‘Two and a Half Men.’ I got into the meetings and it was just — I hated every minute of it. I didn’t like the notes. I just didn’t want to do it. And I was like, ‘God, if I just get out of this, I’ll never look back,’” Perry told Martyn.
Rejection Led To More Success
Perry realized a deal with the major network would have prevented him from reaching the level of success he is witnessing today.
He even adds that if he had signed on to the deal, staples such as “House of Payne” may have never made their way to our homes. Additionally, he wouldn’t have as much ownership in his endeavors.
Fortunately for Perry, the deal ultimately went to “Two and a Half Men.”
“I was thankful but had that not happened and I signed that deal, I would not have went to Atlanta [and] started ‘House of Payne,’” which probably has about 400 [to] 500 episodes right now,” Perry explained. He continued:
“All of my shows have hundreds of episodes ’cause the audience is so endearing and I wouldn’t own everything that I own had I went that way.”
As AfroTechpreviously told you, Perry has full ownership of all his projects. The impressive feat even led to the powerhouse becoming a billionaire.
