Seventeen members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
The defection notices were read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
The lawmakers formally announced their decision to leave the ADC and align with the NDC, marking another shift in the political composition of the lower legislative chamber.
Details surrounding the reasons for the defection were not immediately disclosed during plenary.
The development is expected to further reshape political alignments within the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
