An Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Anyi-Anyi has revealed that it will use the forthcoming 2023 Igbo Day to unveil a series of economic stimulus packages aimed at adding value to the economy of South East geopolitical zone. The programme christened – “Aka Igbo Di Ya” is aimed at encouraging the stimulation of the Igbo economy through lobbying governments to support policies and programs that deepen the use of locally available materials and resources to domestically manufacture goods or supply services to improve the economy of the South east, and create jobs.
Shedding more light on motivation for the initiative, the national leader of Anyi-Anyi, Barrister Anthony Okolo, explained that:
“As part of our objectives, we find it necessary to identify, recognise and celebrate Igbo Day as a celebration of our identity as Ndigbo, honouring men and women who are recording outstanding achievements in different endeavours.”
On the finer details of the programme, Barrister Anthony Okolo said: “In this programme, we’ll embark on promoting policies which will result in the training of farmers and local artisans in the utilisation of locally produced foods and materials, and the establishment of local processing centres for the finished products. “Our aim is to create an estimated 5000 jobs in each state of the South East zone.”“These jobs will come from farming, processing and packaging local food products, bamboo and clay products, and ensuring their distribution within the South East and beyond.”
According to Barrister Okolo, Anyi-Anyi has already secured a partnership with Bamboo U in Indonesia, where 20 candidates will be sent to study bamboo cultivation, processing and developing it into different everyday products, including architectural materials.
“Also, in partnership with PIABC, we’re going to train candidates in heavy clay industry technology to support a local clay industry up to international standards developed by the International Clay Technology Association (ICTa).”
Also lined up for the epoch making event is the launching of the “Enugu Blossom City Project, which will connect food markets, logistics, and distribution centres, alongside vibrant residential, commercial, and entertainment districts. Sited at the popular 9th Mile logistics corridor, in the heart of Enugu – Coal City.
“Enugu Blossom City is a visionary metropolis that blends culinary excellence, cutting-edge technology, and dynamic “Afro-futuristic” urban living. We will call it the Wakanda of Nigeria, but this time, it is real,” Barrister Okolo said.
Anyi Anyi is an organisation established to promote Igbo identity and socio-cultural awareness; establish institutions that focus on improving the lives of Ndigbo; and engage in activities that will benefit Alaigbo, and work towards the establishment of a harmonious Igbo union.
