In his message, the Governor noted that children remain the fulcrum of civilisation. He stressed that leaders must protect them all the time with all that his available to them to make the world a better place.

“The leadership needed today to keep children safe from harm and nefarious tendencies must begin from the home with parents and siblings playing major roles.

Governor Kefas urged parents and guardians alike to pay special attention to details by constantly monitoring their wards in a continuing changing world.

“The times we live in calls for vigilance. Children are a heritage from God and given to us to nurture and preserve. We must mould their character and train them to face future challenges. In this ardous task, parents play a central role, but so do teachers and the entire community. Indeed, it takes the entire village to train a child as the popular saying goes. We must, therefore, start the hard work of leadership at the home front. That quality of leadership must be above board and undiluted.

He disclose that his administration will continue to promote policies that will prioritise the welfare of children, noting that taking children off the streets, for instance, stands as the cornerstone of the free education program.

He hailed the performance of the policy so far as it has greatly reduced the number of out of school children and dealt a fatal blow to child labour.

“Iam glad to observe that we have reduced the number of children on the street who could not afford basic education. With the free and compulsory education program, we have successfully cut down that number. Support to parents in terms of better remuneration and other welfare packages has impacted the lives of our children.

Meanwhile, Dr Agbu Kefas said his government will continue to ensure all-around security that will guarantee the safety of both parents and children throughout the state.

He urged parents to continue to be the first examples their children will emulate, stressing that the home, before any other institution, is the first stage of any child’s sociological upbringing.
