Abuja-based automobile dealer and politician, Aliyu Mohammad, popularly known as “Sarkin Mota”, has secured the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket for the House of Representatives race in Adamawa State.
Mohammad emerged winner of the party’s primary election held on Friday, positioning him as the NDC candidate for the Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His victory is expected to set the stage for a competitive political showdown in the constituency, where he will face the incumbent lawmaker, Abubakar Zango, who is contesting re-election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Shortly after his emergence, the businessman-turned-politician expressed appreciation to party members and supporters, describing the outcome as a collective win and the beginning of a wider political movement.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, he wrote:
“Alhamdulillah. The people have spoken, and I am humbled by the confidence reposed in me.
Thank you to everyone who believed in this movement and stood by us. This victory belongs to all of us.
Yola North, Yola South, and Girei will now know what true representation looks like.
This is only the beginning. The #Sarkified movement has just begun.”
His emergence has already stirred political activities across the constituency, with observers predicting a tightly contested race in the build-up to 2027.
Supporters have also taken to social media to celebrate his victory, describing him as a grassroots figure with strong influence among traders and young people in the region.
If elected in the 2027 polls, Mohammad will take over the seat currently held by Abubakar Zango, who is seeking another term in the National Assembly.
