The Accord Party has officially selected Prof. Christopher Imumolen as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections following a consensus decision at its National Presidential Primary Election.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the party’s National Secretary, Muktar Abdullah, who confirmed that the primary exercise held in Lagos produced Imumolen as the party’s flag bearer.
According to him, the decision reflects broad agreement within the party and its intention to present a credible alternative leadership option to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 polls.
He noted that delegates from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory participated in the convention where a unified choice was reached.
The statement added that Imumolen’s emergence received strong support across party structures, especially from younger members who view him as a representation of modern political leadership. It described him as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and the youngest presidential candidate in the 2023 election cycle, adding that he now enters the 2027 race with wider experience and stronger grassroots backing.
Abdullah also said the party would soon unveil a detailed socio-economic agenda aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Imumolen confirmed his selection, saying the primaries had been successfully concluded and that the party’s list would be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission for official publication.
He pledged that an Accord-led government would focus on job creation, insecurity, and economic restructuring to improve living standards.
Imumolen also called on Nigerians, especially youths and professionals, to support the party’s vision for inclusive governance.
However, the development comes amid reports that a faction of the Accord Party had earlier announced Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as its presidential candidate for the same election cycle, indicating internal divisions over the party’s flag bearer.
