The National Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos, Adedayo Ekong, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the 2027 general elections are conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner.
‎
‎Ekong, who also serves as the NDC South-West national vice-chairman, made the appeal during an interview in Lagos on Monday, stressing that Nigerians deserve an electoral system free from intimidation, manipulation and bias.
‎
‎She said INEC must uphold its constitutional duty by ensuring every vote counts and that election outcomes accurately represent the choice of voters.
‎
‎According to her, the credibility of the electoral process would play a major role in determining public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy. She called on electoral officials to maintain professionalism and impartiality throughout the exercise.
‎
‎Ekong warned that peaceful elections could only be achieved when results genuinely reflect the will of the people, adding that any process perceived as unfair could weaken trust in democratic institutions.
‎
‎She also appealed to security agencies and political stakeholders to support a peaceful electoral environment by remaining neutral, professional and committed to protecting voters’ rights.
‎
‎The NDC chieftain described leadership as a commitment to service, urging elected representatives to maintain regular engagement with their constituents and prioritise their concerns.
‎
‎She encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in the electoral process, vote according to their conscience and remain peaceful, expressing confidence that credible elections would strengthen democracy and promote national development.
