The All Progressives Congress on Friday night declared Governor Caleb Mutfwang as the winner of its governorship primary held in Plateau State on Wednesday.
The Chairman of the APC Committee for the Plateau State House of Assembly and Governorship Primary, Fidelis Mnyim, declared the results at the state party Secretariat in Jos on Friday night after the committee finalised returns from the 17 local government areas of the state.
According to the committee chairman, Mutfwang secured the majority of support from party members across the state, paving the way for his adoption under the APC platform.
The results showed that Mutfwang won in all 17 LGAs of the state, while his only opponent, Yilcini Bida, a retired military officer, trailed far behind in all the votes scored.
The Returning Officer said, “The total number of votes scored by Barrister Caleb Mutfwang from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state is 233,335, while Chief Yilcini Jan Bida scored a total of 3,070 votes
Therefore, Mutfwang, having certified the requirement of the APC constitution and guidelines and having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared elected and returned as the Governorship candidate of Plateau state.”
Chairman of the APC reception committee, Idris Wase, said the governor’s entry into the party created “a broad and unifying political platform that places the interests of the people above partisan considerations.”
He added that the alignment would open pathways for improved road networks, job creation, stronger security, and better living standards.
The committee expressed optimism that the new political alignment under Mutfwang’s leadership would foster peace, inclusiveness, and sustainable development while attracting both public and private investments to the state.
