Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has advised President Bola Tinubu to focus on his health, arguing that the president may no longer be able to do more in office due to his reported health challenges.
Lawal, in an interview with Symfoni TV on Saturday, alleged that Tinubu’s frequent trips to France for medical attention were signs of his declining health.
According to the former SGF, Nigerians are aware of the president’s condition, adding that Tinubu should concentrate on maintaining his wellbeing after attaining the highest political office in the country.
“He is not a healthy man now. Nigerians are not fools when he is always travelling to France. I have said it before, he should focus on his health. He has become president, and hopefully, that is enough, but he cannot do more,” Lawal said.
He also accused the president of pursuing personal interests regardless of whether they align with democratic ideals.
Lawal further stated that age and deteriorating health could affect the effectiveness of leaders in public office, stressing that performance often declines when physical capacity reduces.
“You have enough examples to show that when health declines and age advances, performance drops significantly,” he said, adding that he would prioritise his health if he were in Tinubu’s position.
