Former Liberian President George Manneh Weah has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on his victory in the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a statement scooped from his verified Facebook page by SUMMIT POST News, Weah praised Mahama’s perseverance and valour, as well as the Ghanaian people’s desire for change, saying that Mahama’s triumph is a testament to his perseverance and the people’s yearning for a change in direction.
Weah also commended Mahama’s contender, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for conceding defeat before the votes were fully counted, stating that this gesture raises the world’s admiration for the robustness of Ghanaian democracy. The concession has been widely praised by local and international observers, who see it as an indication of the maturity of Ghana’s democracy.
He also thanked outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo for overseeing a peaceful and transparent electoral process, leaving behind a remarkable democratic legacy. He expressed his hope that other nations in the region can learn from Ghana’s democratic governance, saying that it is his hope that other nations can take a page or two from Ghana’s enduring culture of democratic governance.
