15 Killed in Israeli Strike Near Gaza Aid Point as Ceasefire Talks Stall

15 Killed in Israeli Strike Near Gaza Aid Point as Ceasefire Talks Stall

At least 15 Palestinians, including eight children and two women, were killed in an Israeli airstrike near a medical distribution point in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, according to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

The victims had been queuing for nutritional supplements when the strike hit.

Graphic footage from the hospital showed the bodies of children and adults laid out on the floor as medics treated the wounded.

Among the dead was a pregnant woman and her daughter, while her son remains in intensive care.

Grieving relatives gathered at the hospital mortuary to wrap the bodies in white shrouds and perform funeral prayers.

The Israeli military said it targeted a member of Hamas’s elite Nukhba unit involved in the October 7, 2023 attack on southern Israel.

The Israel Defense Forces acknowledged reports of civilian casualties, stated the incident is under review, and expressed regret over harm to uninvolved individuals.

Elsewhere in Gaza, 26 more people were reportedly killed in additional strikes the same day.

The strike came amid stalled ceasefire talks in Doha, mediated by the US, Qatar, and Egypt. Despite some optimism from the US, no breakthrough has been reached.

A senior Israeli official suggested a deal could take another one to two weeks.

Israel has proposed a 60-day ceasefire that would include discussions for a permanent end to the war, contingent on Hamas disarming.

If Hamas refuses, the official said Israel would resume military operations.

Hamas blamed the impasse on Israeli intransigence, stating it had already agreed to release 10 hostages but insisted on a comprehensive deal to end the Israeli offensive.

The war began after Hamas’s October 7 attack, which killed 1,200 people in Israel and saw 251 taken hostage.

Since then, at least 57,680 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry.

Most of Gaza’s population has been displaced multiple times, and basic infrastructure, including healthcare, sanitation, and food supplies, has collapsed amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
