A philanthropist and community advocate, Barrister John Ebokpo, has unveiled an empowerment initiative and commenced rural road construction projects in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State, aimed at boosting grassroots development and improving the wellbeing of rural dwellers.
The empowerment programme kicked off with the distribution of 200 bags of rice to communities affected by the recent Ochon Alesi crisis in Ochon Ward. Barrister Ebokpo, alongside the Member representing Obubra Constituency II in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Honorable Egbe Egbe Abeng, presented the relief materials to residents of Odonget, Isabang, Ochon and Onyenokpon.
Speaking during the exercise, Ebokpo said the intervention was motivated by compassion and a sense of shared responsibility to ease the suffering of families impacted by the crisis. He stressed that healing and progress require empathy, collective action and a firm commitment to peace and reconciliation.
He called on residents of the affected communities to embrace calm, dialogue and mutual understanding, noting that sustainable development can only flourish in an atmosphere of unity and harmony.
Honorable Egbe Egbe Abeng, who accompanied the philanthropist, reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of his constituents and underscored the importance of leaders standing with their people in times of difficulty.
Beneficiaries and community leaders expressed appreciation for the timely assistance, describing it as reassuring and uplifting. They noted that beyond the food support, the visit conveyed care, solidarity and renewed hope for peace.
In a related effort, Barrister Ebokpo also flagged off construction work on the Ogerege Street Road, as grading activities began shortly after the project’s groundbreaking. He described the development as a practical step toward improving rural infrastructure and enhancing daily life for residents.
According to him, development is a continuous process that demands consistency and accountability. He added that the road project, when completed, will improve access, safety and economic activities in the area.
Residents, youths and community leaders who visited the site commended the initiative and pledged their cooperation, noting that the road would significantly enhance connectivity and ease movement within the community.
Barrister Ebokpo assured the people that the projects would be executed responsibly and closely monitored, reaffirming his commitment to empowering communities, promoting peace and advancing sustainable development in Obubra.
