US President Donald Trump has warned Republicans that failing to win the 2026 midterm elections would likely lead to his impeachment by Democrats.
“You gotta win the midterms ’cause, if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be — I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me,” Trump told House Republican lawmakers at a retreat in Washington. “I’ll get impeached.’
Trump’s comments came as Republicans prepare for November’s midterm elections, when all seats in the House of Representatives and a third of the Senate will be contested. The GOP currently holds a narrow majority in the House, making the outcome crucial for Trump’s agenda and political standing.
Trump’s remarks reflected his concerns about Democratic efforts to remove him from office, citing his previous impeachments in 2019 and 2021. “I got impeached twice on nothing,” Trump said, referencing the allegations of abuse of power and inciting an insurrection.
