The minority caucus in the House of Representatives has pledged to pursue legislative actions to fully equip the armed forces to ensure the safety of the lives and property of Nigerians.
In a statement to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the minority leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda (PDP-Rivers), paid tribute to fallen and serving military heroes.
“On the occasion of this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the minority caucus in the House of Representatives salutes the sacrifices of our gallant soldiers who paid the ultimate price, at various epochs, for the sovereignty and defence of our country.
“As a responsible and responsive group of lawmakers, the caucus pledges to pursue legislative actions, where and when necessary, towards ensuring that the armed forces have all that is needed to guarantee the safety of lives and property of Nigerians,” he said.
According to him, the ovation gives every citizen the opportunity to reflect and canvass for harmonious relationships, peaceful coexistence, and national cohesion amid the growing security challenges.
The lawmaker, however, said that given the rising trend of insecurity in the country, the officers and men of the military should not rest on their oars.
“Conscious of the effects of insecurity on economic growth and national development, the caucus urges the federal government to evolve necessary measures towards improving the welfare schemes of the armed forces,” he said.
Mr Chinda also called for the provision of enhanced security equipment, as well as arms and ammunition, to enable the military to effectively and efficiently curtail, and possibly wipe out, the purveyors of insecurity in the country.
He assured the military of the prayers and good wishes of all Nigerians at all times and in all situations.
