Senate 2026: Ombugadu’s Legislative Experience Places Him At A Clear Advantage

By Samson Bala, Akwanga

I appreciate your thoughtful reflection on the senatorial seat of Nasarawa North and the concerns you have raised about continuity, equity, and balance. It is indeed true that the passing of Distinguished Senator Godiya Akwashiki left a painful vacuum, not only for his immediate family but also for the entire Eggon ethnic group and Nasarawa North at large. His unfinished mandate remains a matter of importance, and it is natural for stakeholders to seek a path that honors his legacy while ensuring fair representation for all.

That said, I believe it is equally important to look beyond sentiment and carefully evaluate who is best positioned to step into this role and deliver tangible results for our people. In this regard, Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu’s legislative experience places him at a clear advantage. Having served with distinction in the House of Representatives, he has already demonstrated his capacity to sponsor and support impactful bills, attract development projects, and represent his constituency with vigor and humility. His years of legislative exposure have equipped him with the skills, networks, and national reach needed to hit the ground running in the Senate.

While I acknowledge the call for Hon. Labaran Maku as a respected son of Eggon land and former Minister of Information, we must remember that national representation at the Senate requires more than popularity or regional balance – it demands legislative competence, familiarity with parliamentary processes, and a proven record of service delivery. Dr. Ombugadu has consistently shown these qualities, earning him the trust of his constituents and colleagues alike.

Choosing him does not diminish the importance of equity or the need for balance in our political system. Rather, it represents a thoughtful blend of continuity and competence – ensuring that the unfinished mandate of Senator Akwashiki is not only continued but elevated to new heights of impact. It also sends a message that Nasarawa North values experience, results, and leadership that can stand strong at the national level.

In conclusion, this is not a contest of ethnic claims or political loyalty but a matter of choosing the best hand to carry our collective aspirations forward. Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu embodies that balance of equity, experience, and excellence that Nasarawa North needs at this crucial time. I humbly submit that supporting him is the most pragmatic and beneficial decision for our district and for the legacy of Senator Godiya Akwashiki.

While permutating, always remember that the tenure is for Eggon ethnic group, but the position is for the senatorial district, and the need to consider other individuals too. Dr. David Emmanuel Ombugadu is loved and celebrated by the Mada people of Akwanga more than other politicians from the coexisting Eggon ethnic group.
